Scope: This collection of links provides access to resources that are published by individuals and or organizations within this discipline. However, this list is not intended to be a directory for academic departments. These can be found by searching online by the name of the academic institution and/or department. If you are unable to locate such listing, please feel free to email me.
The resources are catagorized to mirror the English Department degree offerings:
Creative Writing:
- Creative Writing - a general site that offers tips, marketing ideas, and much more for creative writers.
- Creative Writing Contests - information about creative writing contests, literary magazines theme issues, writing residencies, etc.. 120,000 views since June 2006.
- Narrative Magazine - A free online magazine that publishes first-rank fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. It contains an online library of new literature by celebrated authors and by the best new and emerging writers.
Professional & Technical Writing:
- Harry Miller’s Technical Writing Blog – podcasts about documentation, technical writing and editing.
- Society for Technical Communication – STC is dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication and provides valuable information on various aspects related to the field, including publications, competitions, and a list of related organizations. This site is useful for faculty and students working in this field.
- Tech Writer Voices (AKA I’d rather be writing) – a technical communication blog that includes podcasts and other documentation.
- Technical Writing - A community blog that aims to capture interesting and useful information that’s beneficial to tech writers. Though this blog has an India tilt, tech writers from around the world are welcome to join in.
Literary and Cultural Studies:
- English Literature Resources - a documentation of english literature from classics to contemporaries.
Rhetoric:
- Discourseanalysis.net – is an Discourseanalysis.net is a multilingual interactive portal whose mission is to circulate information related to discourse analysis varying from realted publications to professional events.
- Kairosnews – a weblog discussing rhetoric, technology, and pedagogy.
Communication Planning and Information Design:
- InfoDesign – ‘InfoDesign’: Understanding by Design’ was launched in 2004 as a non-profit information resource for the information design professionals. It contains resources, publications, educational tips, etc.
- User Experience Network – a website focusing on user experience or interaction with design. In addition to providing information, the blog provides professional networking and other useful information.
